Overview

High-performance cement bonded particle building board

RCM Cemboard is a rigid, medium density, high-performance cement bonded particle building board which offers great strength and stability with the workability of wood.

Cemboard is used primarily as an external sheathing board. It provides excellent acoustic properties making it an excellent acoustic building board. Used extensively on both metal and timber frame structures, it is also a great choice for modular and offsite builds.

Cemboard can be used behind all types of facade solutions, as well as in many acoustic floor and roof constructions.

Workability

RCM Cemboard can be cut, drilled and nailed using conventional hand tools; offering many of the properties of timber.

For cutting the product in any volume, we recommend the use of an RCM poly crystalline diamond Dart Blade to avoid excessive wear on other blades. Alternatively, RCM offer a complete fabrication service, please contact our technical department for details.

FAQ's

What applications can RCM Cemboard be used in?

  • RCM Cemboard can be used as an external sheathing board on structures under 18m in height or where a fire specification has not been specified.
  • RCM Cemboard can be used in internal linings and flooring application. Please be mindful to check the moisture movement of our Cemboard if the product will be subject to continued high levels of moisture.
  • RCM Cemboard can be used as part of an acoustic roof build up

Which way round should RCM Cemboard be fitted?

  • Both faces of RCM Cemboard have a smooth surface, the board is stencilled on the reverse side.

What is the fire rating of RCM Cemboard?

  • RCM Cemboard has a rating of B-s1 d0 to EN13501-1 this is a reaction to fire classification and should not be confused with fire resistance.

Can RCM Cemboard be used as a permanently exposed external board?

  • No, RCM Cemboard cannot be left permanently exposed.

What should be used to tape the board to board joints?

  • RCM Dafa tape should be applied to all board to board joints as soon as possible after fixing the boards, unless an air tight seal is required to the external face of the sheathing board, for an air tight seal then the RCM Joint seal system should be used.

During the construction phase, how long can RCM Cemboard be left exposed?

  • RCM Dafa tape RCM Cemboard can be left exposed up to six months as long as the joints are taped.

Can RCM Cemboard be used as a tile backer board?

  • No, Cemboard is not suitable to be used as a tile backer board. Multipurpose is an excellent choice instead for a tile backer board.

Can RCM Cemboard be used to carry a plaster skim coat?

  • No, RCM Cemboard is not suitable for use with a plaster skim coat.

Can RCM Cemboard be used as a render carrier board?

  • No, RCM Cemboard is not suitable for use as a render carrier board. Renderflex however is.

What are the fixing edge distance and maximum fixing centres for RCM Cemboard?

  • RCM Cemboard edge distance is 15mm except at the board corners where fixings should be moved up or down to achieve 50mm. Fixings should be fixed using a maximum 600mm x 300mm grid pattern.

How many fixings are required for RCM Cemboard?

  • 27 No. fixings per 2400mm x 1200mm sheet when fixed in a vertical orientation.
  • 25 No. fixings per 2400mm x 1200mm sheet when fixed in a horizontal orientation.

What type of fixings should be used?

What blade is suitable for cutting RCM Cemboard?

  • RCM can supply Poly Crystalline Diamond (PCD) blades suitable for cutting RCM Cemboard in a range of diameter and bore sizes, please contact RCM Technical department for further information.
