RCM Supporting Aberdeen Exhibit To The World
2 July 2018
Continuing their long-standing relationship with Kalzip, RCM were asked to supply Kalzip acoustic board to the construction of the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference centre. Building work commenced back in August 2016 and is scheduled for completion in 2019.
The development is on the 130 acre former Rowett Research site, which is next to Aberdeen International airport. The Exhibition & Conference centre will include exhibition halls, an energy centre as well as a four star Hilton branded hotel. There will also be space to park some 2,500 vehicles. The arena will comfortably hold some 12,500 people and upon completion is expected to attract major artists and events to the city. The main contractor is the Robertson Group and the cost of construction is estimated to be £333m.
As the site is located immediately below a busy flightpath with regular flights by Chinooks to North Sea oilrigs, the noise level was one of the biggest challenges facing the architects. The conference centre, by nature needs to keep the outside noise out, whilst at the same time ensuring good acoustics on the inside.
Kalzip acoustic board was the building board chosen and the boards form a key component of the Kalzip Roof System.
“We have a long-standing relationship with Kalzip, which goes right back to RCM’s early days in 2004. The latest collaboration has seen RCM supply in excess of 31,000 square metres to the construction of the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference centre. RCM are proud to have played our part in such a prestigious development.
